About Us
History
Maranatha Baptist Church started in Boiling Springs, NC, in April of 1991, and was chartered in October of the same year. The church purchased some land a few miles to the west in Mooresboro, NC, and built a new church facility. Pastor Camp became the pastor on the first Sunday of May, 1996, and two years later MBC built a second building & connected it to the first. Before long, we outgrew both buildings, and had to begin looking for a larger facility. We moved into our current facility, in Shelby, NC in September of 2000, and are presently debt free!

Pastor Frank Camp                     >
704-477-9074
Since 1996, Pastor Frank Camp, a native of Rutherford County, has pastored Maranatha Baptist Church, which has seen steady growth under his leadership. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of nineteen. He and his wife, Renee, have three daughters who are actively serving the Lord along with their husbands. The Camps have eleven grandchildren. In the fall of 1978, Pastor Camp surrendered to God’s call to the ministry. He faithfully and clearly presents the Word of God for the edifying and maturing of believers, so that they in turn can reach others for Christ. Furthermore, he is known for his ability to preach on the needs of the Christian home.
Pastor Mike Hanke                      >

Pastor Mike Hanke was raised in central Georgia by faithful Christian parents. He heard and understood the Gospel in Children’s Church as a six-year-old boy and accepted Christ as his personal Savior in September of 1988. When a senior in high school, God made it clear to him that he should spend his life in the pastoral ministry. He met his wife, Raechel at Ambassador Baptist college, of which they are both graduates, and they now have two children, Jackson & Olivia. Pastor Mike worked and involved himself in the Shelby community while finishing his Master’s degree, and he has a burning desire to see Maranatha Baptist Church fulfill the Great Commission in Shelby and around the world.
Dr. Don Scovil                             >
When Dr. Don Scovill was five or six years old, his mother led him to receive Christ as Savior. He was called into full-time ministry as a teenager during youth meetings. Since 1996, Dr. Scovill, originally from Minnesota, has been serving as director of music at Maranatha Baptist Church. He enjoys working in a friendly church where people love to learn and serve. He has been involved in the field of sacred music since 1954. He and his wife, Evelyne, just celebrated their Fifty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary. They have a daughter, who is the wife of a youth pastor in Minnesota, a son who teaches music in Lattimore, NC, seven grandchildren, and three great-grand children.
